FROM EVERYHIT
Madonna breaks McCartney Top 10 record Madonna has entered the UK singles chart at Number 1 with "Hung Up." In doing so, she has secured her 54th Top 10 hit and overtaken Paul McCartney - including his tally with The Beatles, Wings and various other guises. Though both artists trail somewhat behind Elvis' 76 and Cliff's 65 Top 10 hits, they are an elite group; no other artists have had 50 or more Top 10 hits. Other significant Madonna chart facts... Longest span of Number 1 singles for a female solo artist. In hitting number one this week, Madonna also breaks a record hitherto held by Kylie Minogue. Madonna's chart-toppers now span 20 Years, 3 Months, 16 Days (from "Into The Groove", 3rd Aug 1985 to "Hung Up", 19th Nov 2005 - ie. a total span of 1059 weeks). Kylie Minogue is on 15 Years, 9 Months, and 23 Days (ie. 825 weeks from "I Should Be So Lucky", 23rd Jan 1988 to "Slow"; 15th Nov 2003). (Overall record holder is, you guessed it, Elvis with 47 years, 6 months and 23 days. from "All Shook Up" in 1957 to the re-issue of "It's Now Or Never" in 2005). Most Top 40 hits for a female solo artist Madonna stretches her lead here too. "Hung Up" is her 59th Top 40 hit, pulling away from the previous record holder, Dina Ross (56 hits) - though Ross also has nine uncredited Top 40 hits with the Supremes and Madonna has one with Nick Kamen. Most weeks spent on The Top 40 by a female solo artist This is Madonna's 437th week on the Top 40 - easily more than any other female artist (though a way behind Elvis' record of 1041! Most number 1s by a female solo artist Only six acts in chart history have got into double figures with their tally of chart-toppers. Madonna is the only woman to do so, "Hung Up" being her 11th number one. [The other artists are Elvis Presley (21), The Beatles (17), Cliff Richard (14), Westlife (13) and The Shadows (11)] Female solo artist with most weeks at Number 1 This is Madonna's 22nd week at the top; more than any other solo woman. (though a way behind Elvis' 80 weeks and The Beatles 69 weeks). Madonna's album "Confessions On A Dance Floor" is released in the UK today. This will add to her success in the long-playing department too... Solo female artist with most Number 1 Albums The most successful solo album chart-topper is Elvis (with 15 number ones). In second place come David Bowie, Michael Jackson and.. Madonna - with 8 each. If, as seems likely, "Confessions On A Dance Floor" hits number 1, Madonna will rise above Bowie and Jackson and become the second most successful solo album chart-topper ever. Female solo artist with most weeks in the Album Top 40 Madonna has already been on the Top 40 album chart for more weeks than any other female soloist and will probably add significantly to her current tally of 559 weeks in the UK album Top 40. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

I spoke to Tallulah (Abigail) in July, for the first time in about two years. It sounds like real-life caught up with her, just like it did with me. I should speak to her again really, it's just summoning up the willpower. Both our lives changed so much. Me and Edward haven't spoken since the 'Rama closed down. In it's last few months, we rarely spoke anyway. I miss laughing at KungFuLola in some buggy chat-room in the middle of cyberspace. I miss Shaq - I seem to recall that he moved to New York. I'm not sure how or why I know that, I just do. Do you remember Gudmun? I thought of him when I heard that Madonna was playing the EMA's in Portugal. Martinelli said: u like the album?
It's okay. I don't think it's as good as everybody has been saying, but it's alright. Reading all the reviews without hearing it, I thought that she'd re-invented the wheel but it's basically post-millenium French Disco. My favourite track on the album, "Get Together" reminds me of Kylie's "Falling" from her 'Kylie Minogue' album. I can hear the obvious nods to Daft Punk and Stardust, but the over-riding feeling is Kylie... Martinelli said: 'soepena'

I really am thinking about going back to the Madonna universe.
With all the hype over the new album, I went looking for a good news site and I couldn't find one. Oddly, out of all of them, Bart's was one of the better ones. Madonnalicious is still good for magazine scans but it was the mood of them all which I found a bit odd. It's all so... serious. I mean, I found a story about Shirley Maclaine saying that the horse which threw Madonna off, should have a statue in it's honour. The mad old bitch is still bitter about Madonna dating her brother, Warren Beatty. http://www.sundaymail.co...._page.html So, I used this as a litmus test to see which sites had reported on this "news" and none of them had. I would have jumped on something like this at the 'Rama, because it would have generated bitchy posts in the forum, in the same way that typing Jennifer Lopez's name as J***** L**** always did. I mean - it was funny. None of the fan-sites out there seem to have that attitude anymore. I always thought that the silly stuff was the best stuff, because at the end of the day, spending six hours a day, writing about a middle-aged diva is silly.

NEW YORK NEWSDAY
http://www.nynewsday.com/...ines-music The Immaterial Girl declares creative bankruptcy BY RAFER GUZMÁN STAFF WRITER November 15, 2005 What Madonna needs now is an album that will reignite her career, something to remind us why she's held our attention for the past two decades. Though usually a nimble choreographer of self-reinvention, Madonna has made some awkward missteps lately. First came 2000's "Music," a respectable but lesser sequel to her critically acclaimed "Ray Of Light." Then came 2003's "American Life" album, in which the Material Girl unwisely attempted socio-political commentary. Now comes "Confessions On a Dance Floor" (Warner Bros.). It won't sink her career - Madonna is far too resilient and clever for that. But one thing is sure: "Confessions" is arguably one of the worst albums ever released by a major recording artist. Why? The short answer lies in track five, "I Love New York." It's a dark-hued dance tune that tries hard to be "edgy" and "urban," with Madonna singing in a snotty, tough-girl voice. But here is what she's singing: "I don't like cities/But I like New York." Long pause. "Other places/Make me feel like a dork." This from the woman who co-wrote "Into the Groove" and "Express Yourself"? "Confessions" fails so completely and with such astonishing force that it's both hilarious and agonizing. It's like watching a Rockette crash to the floor, or hearing an opera diva choke on a loogie. Or, more to the point: It's like listening to a smart, savvy pop star perform 12 creatively bankrupt, mentally stunted dance tracks. For "Confessions," Madonna rehired Stuart Price, the DJ who served as her musical director on past tours, and techno-wiz Mirwais Ahmadzai, who worked on "Music." The idea, apparently, was to target the discotheques of the world, and it might still work: The album's lead track, "Hung Up," already is a hit. That's the one with the cheesy sample from ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)." "Confessions" sounds strangely dated, like a visit to a suburban rave circa 1995. Muffled drum tracks grow steadily clearer, synthesizers zig-zag against the rhythm - and then comes that pregnant pause right before the beat returns with added force. Every track has the same canned sound, as if nobody could be bothered to adjust a knob here or there. On "Like It Or Not," Madonna tries to play the queen bee, comparing herself to Mata Hari and Cleopatra. On "Future Lovers," the Kabbalah convert attempts to blow some minds: "In the demonstration of this evidence, some have called it religion/This is not a coincidence/Would you like to try?" And then there's "Isaac," built around wailing Middle Eastern vocals - gee, nobody's done that before. Tellingly, several songs grapple with the cost of fame and questions about death. The clincher, though, remains "I Love New York." Its lameness is absolutely unstoppable. Just when you've wiped the tears from your eyes, it keeps going: "If you don't like my attitude/Then you can eff off. Just go to Texas/Isn't that where they golf?" ("Confessions On a Dance Floor," in stores today. Grade: F.) [Edited 11/14/05 15:20pm]
